Youth Mental Health Services

  • Individual Therapy

Individual therapy is one type of psychotherapy in which a trained CORE Health professional helps a youth work through personal issues they have been facing. It is an effective treatment for a variety of emotional difficulties and mental illnesses. Also known as talk therapy, it can help improve or control symptoms that influence an individual’s well-being.

  • School-Based Services

CORE Health provides mental health outpatient counseling for youth up to age 18 at schools in the Longview, Kelso, Kalama, Woodland, and Castle Rock school districts. Clients are assigned a mental health counselor following an initial intake assessment to guide treatment and recovery. On a weekly basis CORE Health counselors will go to the school to meet with the client in a safe and confidential space.

  • Peer Support Counseling

In addition to a client’s mental health counselor, a CORE Health peer counselor offers additional support outside of therapy sessions which integrates developing life skills. The duties of a peer counselor vary widely, but they are all based on the effectiveness of assistance and support from people with shared life experience. Peer counselors use their own stories in helping others develop hope and improve their lives.

  • Emotion Coaching

Emotion Coaching: The Heart of Parenting presents a 5-step method that builds emotional intelligence and creates positive, long lasting effects for children from toddler to teens. Easy to learn, and used by parents, educators and care-givers, it supports kids through life’s ups and downs in a way that builds confidence and helps them grow socially, emotionally and intellectually.

  • Medication Management

Medication management is a part of your outpatient treatment that involves the initial evaluation of the patient’s need for medications, and ongoing monitoring of the medication by a qualified CORE Health prescriber. It requires a thorough review of prescribed drugs and their possible side effects to create treatment plans and monitor their safety and efficacy.

CORE Health youth clients enrolled in mental health and substance use treatment are able to have access to our telepsychiatry care. Every client enrolled in medication management will have a team approach of both prescriber and counselor working towards improving the life of the individual.
