Our History

It all started with a visionary idea from our CEO, Frank Morrison. In 2012, Frank took on the important role of executive director of Community House on Broadway, a homeless shelter located in Longview, WA. It became increasingly clear that the homeless individuals and families residing at Community House required significantly better access to vital behavioral health services on site, services that could more effectively support their needs in real time. After engaging in numerous conversations with local leaders and mental health providers, it was apparent that there had been no previously established precedent for such community-based services in the area. In 2014, the shelter was graciously gifted a building that had formerly operated as an internal medicine clinic, courtesy of the dedicated doctors and their spouses who had once run the clinic. In 2015, CORE Health officially opened its doors to clients, marking a significant milestone. Our small but dedicated staff served approximately 250 clients in that first year, both in our office and out in the community, including at the shelter itself. By November of 2017, CORE officially became a separate entity from Community House, while continuing to prioritize the shelter’s residents as our primary target population. We have experienced rapid growth since then, and today, in 2022, we proudly serve more than 1,600 clients each month, with almost half of that number being youth!

CORE Health History, CORE Health Main Building, CORE Health established

CORE Health Main is on 14th Avenue in Longview, WA, and focuses on adult mental health therapy and substance use treatment.

Today more than ever we continue to live by our mission by promoting community, opportunity, resourcefulness and most of all empowerment!

Today CORE Health has four office locations four locations. The first site established after our initial opening is located in Centralia, WA and offers mental health, peer counseling, and substance use treatment. Next, CORE Health, with the support of our 19th district legislator Jim Walsh, was able to purchase what would become the Social Support Center building in 2017. The center offers Supportive Housing and Employment and is conveniently located on 12th Avenue in Longview, WA, just a short walk away from Community House on Broadway and our CORE Health Youth Center.

With the growing number of employees and clients, CORE Health was in need of a new building that would help separate the youth from adult clients and offer more office space for services. In 2021, CORE Health was able to purchase a building in downtown Longview, WA located at 1400 Commerce Avenue which would be the future home of the CORE Health Ascent Youth Center. Opened in late 2021, CORE Health ASCENT Youth Center offers a safe space for the youth to come and hang out, receive mental health and substance use treatment as well as have a place to socialize with fellow peers.

Today more than ever we continue to live by our mission in Cowlitz County and beyond by promoting community, opportunity, resourcefulness and most of all empowerment!
