Mental Health Clinician

Job Description

  • Identifies potential health problems through assessment of participants’ physical and mental status, daily living skills, coping patterns, strengths and supports.

  • Consultation with relevant community agencies, the coordination of multi-agency services, and participation in multi-agency support team on behalf of consumers. Provides education and training to other individuals and/or agencies as necessary.

  • Develops with the individual in service an assessment and comprehensive treatment plan that identifies the unique needs of each individual and may provide individual, couples, family, and group therapy. Participates in crisis intervention services with participants.

  • Provide individual supportive therapy (i.e. problem solving, role-playing, modeling and support, social skill development, and assertiveness training) to increase client social and interpersonal activities in office and/or community settings.

  • Provide ongoing measurement of individual in service outcomes and evaluation of intervention effectiveness. Address barriers and potential health problems that impede the development of skills necessary for independent functioning in the community.

  • Completes and ensures the maintenance of all required clinical and administrative documentation.

  • Participates in, and leads as necessary, quality improvement and assurance process for cases.

  • Participates in a unit team and provides team coverage.

  • Perform other duties and projects, as assigned by the supervisor.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in counseling, social work nursing, and/or social services related field.

  • Licensed for mental health services by the WA State Department of Health.

  • Two (2) years of experience providing direct treatment to persons experiencing behavioral or mental health issues.*

  • Proficient in computer use and applications commonly used or applied in this field/trade/position for the development of reports, documents, presentations and access/utilize databases for care management and Microsoft Office software.

  • Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.

  • Pass and maintain a clear background record as required for healthcare organization under state and federal contracts.

Minimum Requirements

  • Counselor registration in Washington State or able to obtain within 6 months.

*Recent graduates are not subject to the required two years' experience. Recent graduates shall receive a higher level of supervision until they either A) meet the WAC Mental Health Professional definition, or B) receive a MHP waiver

Peer Support Counselor

Certified Peer Counselors work with their peers (adults and youth) and the parents of children  receiving mental health services. They draw upon their experiences to help peers find hope and  make progress toward recovery. Because of their own life experience, they are uniquely  equipped to provide support, encouragement and resources to those with mental health  challenges. 

Job Description

  • Encouraging a self-identified, active model of recovery by assisting mental health consumers to recognize and develop resiliency through identifying and supporting personal strengths and goals. 

  • Promote self-advocacy through exploring and assisting in the development of an active natural and communal support structure to meet individual needs. 

  • Assist in organizing, encouraging, and assisting personal recovery goals as identified by individual treatment service plan provided by the primary Mental Health Provider.

  • Support symptom management and relapse prevention through developing a personal self-care program based upon personal needs by utilizing educational resources and experiential means. 

  • Inspire hope through sharing personal experiences that are relevant to the needs of mental health consumer. 

  • Completes and ensures the maintenance of all required documentation.

  • Set up regular sessions with mental health consumer to promote consistent growth of recovery goals. 

  • Performs other work, as required.  

Knowledge and Abilities 

Knowledge of: Social and employment services; interviewing techniques & principles, social &  economic conditions; computer applications.  

Ability to: Communicate effectively, orally and in writing, in both group and individual settings;  conduct effective interviews and facilitate meetings; work in a team based environment;  implement quality process initiatives by utilizing tools to ensure customer satisfaction; establish  and maintain effective interpersonal relationships with customers, peers, management,  partners, community based organizations, private employers, and other state & public  agencies; perform computer applications & internet operations; work with diverse populations;  comprehend and interpret program provisions, regulations, and administrative policies;  facilitate workshops; work in a fast paced environment demonstrating flexibility and ability to  adapt to change; and recruit & engage customers into a system that provides a multitude of  services to meet their needs.  

Desired Qualifications 

  • Successfully complete steps to become a Certified Peer Counselor (CPC) with the state  of Washington, which include: 

✓ Successfully complete a 40-hour approved training; and pass the state exam

✓ Receive credentialing from the Washington Department of Health as an Agency Affiliated Counselor after being hired 

  • Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license
